SPARK partners with primary schools, volunteers and organisations to support the settlement of newly arrived families and create opportunities for them to engage in their local communities. SPARK builds capacity to support strong families and inspire inclusive communities by facilitating:

Educational, social and recreational programs within schools to promote children’s development. These include: Bright Sparks and Under One Big Top. Bright Sparks is a learning and activity session held once a week after school. Under One Big Top is a circus skills recreational workshop aimed at fostering relationships between newly arrived students and their settled peers.

Parental engagement with schools and the broader community. This is through programs including: English classes facilitated in schools by skilled volunteers; community Sparks parent groups; weekly in school meetings that aim to build capacity and social connection and; parent excursions which provide a new experience and the opportunity to meet and connect with other parents in the school community.

Advocacy and awareness raising of refugee and settlement issues.
