Vinnies CEO Sleepout Achieves a Record Result in 2022
The biggest event on Australia’s fundraising calendar raises more than $9.6 million for homelessness in 2022.
When a group of Sydney businesspeople raised $5,000 by sleeping out in Parramatta Park in 2006, they probably didn’t think their sleepout would turn into a major national fundraising event that would one day raise $9.6 million.
This year’s event has been the most successful Sleepout to date. In NSW alone more than 1,400 business and community leaders participated from Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong, raising well over $3 million.
The funds raised will be used to transform the lives of people experiencing or at risk of homelessness by channelling it into accommodation, food, healthcare, and individualised support, designed with the ultimate goal of providing a safe and permanent home.
Paul Burton, St Vincent de Paul Society NSW State Council President, emphasised that money raised at the event will benefit people across the state and the nation.
“There are Vinnies services throughout NSW, so we can provide help where it is needed.
Homelessness, housing affordability, housing scarcity, and domestic violence are faced by people from the coast to inland centres,” Mr Burton said.
The Vinnies CEO Sleepout has gone on to raise more than $80 million since its inception and continues to make a profound difference to thousands of lives every year thanks to the ongoing dedication of our members, volunteers, employees, sponsors, and participants.
