As part of building an even more inclusive and safe Society, we are commencing a series on our commitment to a workplace that welcomes and celebrates each other, free from discrimination, bullying and harassment of any kind.
As you know, everything we do in the Society should be grounded in care for all. That care extends not only to those we serve, but to every one of our members, volunteers and employees.
Everyone has the right to feel safe, respected and valued, free from racism, bullying and discrimination of any kind. That’s why the Society upholds Zero Tolerance for Racism.
Creating a culture grounded in fairness, empathy, and compassion is a shared responsibility. At the heart of this are respect and human dignity, which recognise each person’s rights and inherent value, including cultural identity and life experience.
We each have a responsibility not only to embody our values but also to speak up when they are compromised. If you witness racism or discrimination, don’t stay silent. A calm and respectful reminder that racism is not accepted here can make a meaningful difference. If something continues to concern you, please raise it; or call it out for what it is.
Our Code of Conduct and Diversity and Inclusion Policy are here to support you, and to affirm our shared commitment to a Society that welcomes and respects everyone.
We also provide learning opportunities, like the Djurali First Nations Cultural Awareness modules, and a new course on Building a Respectful Workplace.
We encourage you to engage with these tools, as they can help each of us reflect, learn, and grow in the way we relate to others.
Every respectful conversation, every act of courage and kindness, brings us one step closer to a truly inclusive culture.
Thank you for the role you play in making the Society a safe and welcoming place for all.
