Ageing Well, Giving Back: Connecting Seniors with Volunteering

Across 26th – 27th June, 2026, our incredible team from St Vincent de Paul Society NSW had the pleasure of attending the Ageing Well Expo at Sydney Olympic Park.

It was fantastic to see so many retirees stopping by the stall to learn more about the many ways they can get involved in making a difference. Older Australians have long been the backbone of volunteering in our communities, bringing a wealth of experience, compassion and life skills that strengthen organisations like ours every day.

Volunteering isn’t just about giving back; it’s also about gaining so much in return. For many seniors, volunteering provides a renewed sense of purpose, meaningful social connections, opportunities to learn new skills, and a chance to remain active and engaged within their local community. It plays a vital role in reducing social isolation while building stronger, more connected communities for everyone.

It’s inspiring to witness the enthusiasm of people looking for ways to contribute their time and talents. Every conversation over the two days at the expo reinforced that there is no retirement from making a positive impact.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who visited us at the expo!

If you’ve been thinking about volunteering, there has never been a better time to get involved. Your experience, kindness and generosity can make a lasting difference in the lives of others, and in your own.
