For the past five years, Adam Foda has been a familiar face to Sydney’s most disadvantaged on Vinnies Van runs, which provide food, tea and coffee, referrals and compassionate conversation.
“Our food services mean one less expense for those doing it tough, which can make a huge difference,” Adam noted.
Service is part of Adam’s DNA, rolling up his sleeves wherever he can, which has also included volunteering with the NSW Rural Fire Service and presently as a reservist in the Australian Army.
The catalysts for Adam’s volunteering were a milestone birthday and personal loss, giving him pause to reflect on life and ultimately be grateful for a loving upbringing and the blessings of friends, education, career and home, things “easy to take for granted.”
“But this is not the case for many people. There are so many people doing it tough,” Adam said.
Connecting with others with shared circumstances has also enriched Adam’s life, such as joining a bereavement group for young adults.
“Volunteering with the Vinnies Vans plugs a gap that felt missing,” he said. “There’s something innately special about putting others before you, even if it’s in a small way for a couple of hours.”
Witnessing the resilience and kindness of people being assisted has deeply inspired Adam.
“I also work with a fantastic team of people as part of the Monday (A) food truck team – big shout out to Joshna, John, Muzza and Chloe!”
A massive thank you to Adam for his commitment and passion for Volunteering at Vinnies.
