Meet Leon Ross: New President of Greater Western Sydney Central Council

The Society is pleased to announce that Leon Ross (right) has been elected as the new President of the Greater Western Sydney Central Council. Leon has been a committed conference member since 2018 and brings a wealth of experience in leadership, service, and practical problem-solving to the role.

Leon’s journey with the Society began when he was invited to help the St Marys Our Lady of the Rosary Conference continue by taking on the presidency role. Two years later, he stepped up again as Nepean Regional President when the position became vacant.

“There appears to be a bit of a pattern here,” Leon said. “The roles become vacant and there aren’t any takers. I merely seek to undertake the role to help the team ensure the important work continues.”

Beyond his work with Vinnies, Leon has spent most of his career in the shipping industry, managing operational logistics. He also brings extensive volunteer experience, having served with the NSW State Emergency Service for 15 years.

“It is a time-consuming role, however very rewarding. I’ve learned many skills during this time,” he explained.

Leon’s deep faith and active involvement in his parish are central to his approach to leadership.

“Nothing gives me more joy than serving the Lord. The Catholic church and faith are a big driver in my life and way of operating.”

As he begins his term, Leon is focused on continuing the mission of the Society.

“The work does not end. As long as inequity exists in society, there will be people in need, and that’s where we come in. With all my heart, I ask Almighty God for strength and guidance to meet the demands of this role and to do it justice.”

We also extend our sincere thanks to Vikram Pitre, who has completed his full term as President. Vikram has served with dedication throughout his tenure, and we are deeply grateful for his contribution to the mission of the Society across Greater Western Sydney.

Congratulations, Leon! Please join us in welcoming him to this important leadership role.
