On January 26, the First Nations Engagement team had the privilege of hosting a stall at the community-led Yabun Festival.
Yabun is the largest one-day festival of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultures, operated by the Gadigal Information Service, at Victoria Park in central Sydney.
“It was a special experience to be among community while embracing and celebrating the oldest living culture in the world,” Samantha McGuire, Manager - First Nations Engagement, said. “And the vibrant atmosphere made it clear that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture continues to thrive in face of adversity.”
Many attendees showed gratitude for the Society’s attendance, as well as the fresh fruit and water the Society provided, which helped to make the day more affordable and accessible.
Showing up for our communities plays a key role in building relationships and trust, and our presence at Yabun is one part of the Society’s ongoing journey and commitment to reconciliation.
