In times of crisis or uncertainty, knowing where to turn can make all the difference. That’s where Vinnies Assist steps in—a vital early intervention program run by the St Vincent de Paul Society, designed to connect people in need with the right help, at the right time.
Operating Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm, Vinnies Assist offers a central contact point for anyone seeking support. Whether someone is facing financial hardship, homelessness, domestic violence, or other forms of disadvantage, Vinnies Assist provides information, support, and referral pathways with compassion and efficiency.
Anyone can contact Vinnies Assist by calling 13 18 12 (option 5) or emailing vinnies@vinnies.org.au.
This program supports a “no-wrong-door” approach, meaning that no matter who you are or what you need, if you reach out to Vinnies Assist, you’ll be listened to and directed to the most appropriate support. If the Society doesn’t offer the service directly, Vinnies Assist will connect individuals with trusted external services—ensuring that no one is turned away without help.
What Vinnies Assist Can Offer:
- Immediate telephone support
- Referrals to Vinnies services including:

Vinnies Assist empowers individuals by helping them make informed choices, take steps toward stability, and access resources that can transform their lives.
We Need More Hands and Hearts
As cost-of-living pressures increase and more people reach out for help, the need for volunteers and members is greater than ever.
Whether you're looking to give back to your community, meet new people, or live out your values through action, volunteering with Vinnies is a deeply rewarding experience. Volunteers are the backbone of Vinnies’ mission—from answering phones and assisting with referrals, to delivering food, offering companionship, or helping in Vinnies shops.
Membership with Vinnies offers another way to get involved—joining local conferences and working closely with others to offer person-to-person support rooted in dignity, empathy, and solidarity.
“Being a Vinnies volunteer means showing up for someone when they need it most. You may not realise it, but even small actions can change lives.”
