Leadership (MEMBERS)

Unlock your leadership potential with Leading for Impact, The Saint Vincent de Paul Leadership Development Program with the University of Notre Dame Australia. This program is specifically designed for current and aspiring Regional and Central Council Presidents and provides a unique opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to lead with purpose and impact.

Leading with Impact has been developed in conjunction with Notre Dame University and has been designed for member leaders or members who demonstrate leadership capacity.

Participants will gain formation and a deeper understanding of leadership theory, while also learning practical strategies and best practices for leading and managing service-orientated Catholic organisations. Through in-person training, with the support of experienced faculty and a community of like-minded peers, you'll be well-equipped to lead with integrity and compassion in the service of those in need.

The program will be delivered in easily accessible modules over 12 - 18 months, with 2 to 3 modules each semester. Each module involves approximately 7 hours of contact and is be delivered in a full day block

It covers:

Module 1 FormationThis module focuses on the application of the corporal and spiritual works of mercy and Catholic Social Teaching in Church agencies. The aim is to empower staff and volunteers to make connections between the experiences of poverty, disadvantage and marginalisation that they encounter in their everyday work and the unjust structures that contribute to inequality and exclusion, which form the basis of the Church’s broader advocacy mission. This module will also provide opportunities to see how individuals and the organisation integrate their faith and the work they are engaged in and to explore how our faith informs our works and our works inform our faith.Module 2 Leadership and ManagementThis module provides an exploration of contemporary business leadership and management practice in the context of Catholic leadership. It examines skills and competencies required of contemporary leaders including influence, communication, team leadership, and strategic leadership underpinned by the principles of Catholic social teaching, with particular emphasis on human dignity and the common good. Module 3 GovernanceThis module would explore principles of governance and regulation particularly as it applies to not-for-profit organisations. It would provide members with a specific understanding of governance as it applies to SVDPNSW taking into taking into considering SVDP NSW’s key governance documents. Module 4 Financial ReportingFinancial reporting is a significant part on an entity’s governance and accountability. In this module, the student will examine financial reporting, technical accounting and business skills that are applicable in the profession and the global environment. Module 5 Counselling Skills for LeadersMany of the skills used in counselling are desirable even if one is not a Professional Counsellor. There are many situations in Catholic agencies where these skills can enhance relationships and improve our capacity to serve the poor and marginalised with compassion, respect and empathy. This practical module will teach skills such as listening, asking questions, reflecting, clarifying, challenging, and structuring the interview/session. Module 6 Supporting Member and Volunteer Engagement: This module provides an overview of factors that help sustain volunteer engagement and will help organisations in understanding and providing volunteer experiences and contexts that will support sustained volunteer engagement, particularly within Catholic social service organisations. Module 7 Digital Communication and SecurityThis module will provide you with the knowledge and skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with your in a digital environment while also keeping sensitive information secure. You will learn about the latest tools and technologies for secure communication, as well as best practices for managing digital risks in order to protect the organization and the people it serves.
